Vice, Vice Baby

I have to say that Gluttony is by and large one of my favorite vices. The buffet line calls to me in a sing-song voice of "I'm going to be frickin' delicious, and you're going to want to eat all of me." My neighborhood friendly Subway sandwich guy knows my name, what I do for a living, and makes my sandwich before I even open my mouth to say, "Five dolla' foot long, hell-to-the-yeah!" So far I've managed to stay away from the Day Job's daily arrival of the Taco Truck, but I feel it's only a matter of time before I cave and order the hell out of their chorizo con huevos.

The Gluttony is also in my obsessive need to acquire new books, well, new to me anyway. Before the Day Job, deep in the land of unemployment, I was a weekly staple at the local library, reading the hell out of their tiny Fantasy and Science Fiction section, and also chowing down on their world culture, history, and books on fiction writing. I'm fascinated by reading about other cultures. Just a couple of days ago I was reading about Japanese fox-spirits, kitsune, and the Shinto religion, along with various Hindu ideas about virtues, and Buddhism's "five poisons," essentially deadly vices.  

Sloth is my next favorite vice. In fact, I want to take a nap just looking at the screen. There's nothing quite so fulfilling as sleeping, perchance to dream, and yes, I used to keep a dream journal, and yes, those dreams have spawned a few short stories. There's also nothing wrong with sitting in a quiet room, staring at the wall and simply thinking. For some reason, I've always thought of reading as Slothful. This spring I'm all excited about setting up my hammock. It's all about the gentle rocking motion, and warm spring California weather; this is as close to peace and quiet as one can get living in a traffic-ridden city. I think everyone needs a bit a Sloth now and then to regenerate in this go-go-go culture of ours.

Wrath. Wrath is actually lowest on my vice-scale. Except when I started commuting to and from the City. Almost daily, I'm honked at, cut off, not let in, forced to squeeze around, flashed at with high-beams, zoomed around, and yes, flipped the bird. I used to take this all in stride, but since the daily commute from the Day Job, I've lost all patience with the idiotic drivers who are ALL out to kill me. Look dude, I already drive 20 miles over the speed limit, and no, I'm not going to move out of the fast lane so you don't have to go around me, and no it doesn't matter how close you are to my ass.

Also, I love the Forever Lazy. Nah, just kidding.
